A Tradition of Hospitality
I was raised on the hunting plantations of South Georgia. Wealthy people from around the world would fly down to hunt deer or turkey for the weekend, paying thousands of dollars in the process. What always amazed me was that even though there was great fanfare if someone got a good deer, the single most consistent thing I heard them reference to friends and family on the phone was the food! I never knew how good we had it in the South until I went to New York and Philadelphia to film “Forged in Fire” & “Master of Arms”. The short version? The food was awful. Everywhere. I finally understood that we cooked well down home. Though everyone is here for the incredible craft of blacksmithing, it is as important that you are comfortable and well fed. We use -only- fresh ingredients. Our biscuits are made from scratch, our hamburgers hand pattied and our steaks hand cut. For God’s sake we even make our own charcoal! We have local fresh vegetables and wine that is made right down the road by Stillpond Vineyards, my cousins, nonetheless! I want you to be impressed by the dedication of our teachers, instructors and hospitality but I want you to be amazed by the food. Fresh, simple and well made. We don’t make it complex, we just make it excellent.
